Top Tinnitus Treatment Introduction

Welcome to my blog!

My name is Stephen Geller Katz and I have and over the last 10 years I have developed a highly successful therapy for tinnitus which I have named Tinnitus Cognitive Retraining Therapy or TCRT.

Mission Statement

stephen-geller-katz-LCSW-RThis blog’s mission is to provide you with hope.  Maybe you have been told there is nothing you can do or that you just have to get used to it.

I am telling you right now that there is plenty you can do and you don’t have to just get used to it.

If you have found my site it was probably no accident.  You are definitely desperate to get some help for  this disturbing condition.  The good news is that there is hope.  My therapy has been successful in helping countless sufferers of tinnitus to lower the volume and intensity and as well as decrease the depression and anxiety that accompany and team up to actually feed the tinnitus.

Many people who come to me are desperate for hope and are even more stressed by the “doom and gloom” they encounter on the internet and from many of their doctors.  It’s this type of negative information that makes people feel helpless and even increases the tinnitus symptoms.

Case in point:

Peter N. reported that he had low level tinnitus for several years which did not seem to bother him.  When he mentioned that he had ringing in the ear to a friend the response was:  “You must have tinnitus.”  “What’s that?” Peter inquired.  “Look it up on the internet,” his well-intentioned friend advised.  You can probably see where this is going.  Our friend Peter went home that very night and spent several hours on the internet and after one sleepless night, he became so worked up and anxious that the tinnitus level hit the roof and his real problems with tinnitus began.  After working with me a short time Peter began to make steady progress.  Early on in treatment he made important connections between his emotions and the tinnitus level.   He then concluded:  “It was my mind that got me here and it is my mind that is getting me out.”

We can help improve your tinnitus symptoms.

The Foremost Symptoms Of Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a disorder where you experience ringing in your head or ears while there is no external sound or noise present. You hear noises on either intermittent or continuous basis. The sound keeps on fluctuating in your eardrums. The types of sounds heard can vary significantly and the annoying noises can exacerbate the symptoms. You may hear sounds similar to hissing, static, roaring, buzzing, whistling and whooshing.

Tinnitus is split into categories according to the response of sensory organ;

Objective tinnitus

This is where the doctor will be able to listen to the sound in your ear during his diagnosis. Objective tinnitus isn’t that common and develops only when there is a complication with your blood vessels in the ear. Another symptom of this health complication is that you will the muscle contract in the middle of the ear.

Subjective tinnitus

This occurs due to prolonged exposure to sound. Subjective tinnitus is the most common type of tinnitus and leads to excruciating pain in the inner, middle and outer ear. The foremost cause of tinnitus is a damaged nerve in the ear.

Symptoms include:

Tinnitus symptoms may also develop due to the prior health issues such as heart problems, hypertension and Meniere’s disease. However, there are certain types of tinnitus in which you hear such noises.

Hyperacusis and its symptoms

If you have worked at a construction site, warehouse or a factory and were involved in using noisy, heavy machinery on a day to day basis, it is strongly recommended that you ask for a transfer or be sure to wear heavy, protective ear-gear. Why? Well, prolonged exposure of extremely loud noises can make people susceptible to tinnitus. The scientific term is referred to as “Hyperacusis” where you become highly sensitive to a certain sound frequency – and whenever you hear it, symptoms begin surface. This condition can worsen the physical complication and can lead to intolerable pain.

Pulsatile tinnitus and its symptoms

tinnitusThe rhythmical noise in eardrum indicates “pulsatile tinnitus”, which occurs simultaneously along your heart beat. The condition is very annoying and painful and the rhythm of the sounds and noise you experience changes when there is a shift in blood flow to your ear. This type of tinnitus is different from the objective tinnitus, and there is plaque formation in your eardrum.

Musical hallucinations and its symptoms

tinnitusThis is where you actually hallucinate sound, you feel as if there is music playing in the room or around you anywhere when there are no sounds at all. It mostly occurs in people with previous medical history of tinnitus and hearing disability. Musical hallucination can also strongly affect people who have normal hearing.

Low-frequency tinnitus

tinnitusThis type of tinnitus is quite puzzling. In low frequency tinnitus, the patient cannot recognize the source of the sound. However, the frequency of the sound is similar to that of a piano, and often the sound will often mimic rumbling, murmuring, humming and deep droning, which can adversely affect your cognitive function and concentration levels.

Bottom line

Unfortunately, there is still no cure for tinnitus yet. However, personal protective equipment such as ear muffs and ear plugs can mitigate the effect of tinnitus. Though the symptoms are too diverse, it’s difficult to identify the signs of tinnitus. Contact the best tinnitus treatment expert in NYC.

Risk Factors for Tinnitus That You Can Control

Are you feeling ringing or abnormal sound in your ear? Then I regret telling you that you have developed the prominent symptoms of tinnitus. People are more susceptible towards tinnitus if they have long-term exposure to a loud workplace, a frequent sufferer of depression & stress and those who are an active musician.

Here are some preventive measures that can save you from tinnitus.

Preventive Measures

tinnitus1. Many industries provide personal protective equipment to their employees. But most of them are failed to give proper training to their employees for wearing protective muffle. It is advised to those who are permanent employees of the industrial environment to wear earmuffs to keep them self-secure from a harmful condition such as tinnitus. As high decibel of noise can negatively impact the normal functioning of the ear.

tinnitus2. People are more vulnerable to tinnitus if they have gone through with post-traumatic stress. The exposure to a loud environment can put them in danger of painful tinnitus. It can also induce in those who had head and neck injuries. The simple way to prevent the occurrence of tinnitus is to reduce the exposure to loud noise. Regular listening to music through headphone should also be avoided.

3. If you feel that you are gradually developing the symptoms of tinnitus, then you should keep yourself away from caffeine and nicotine-containing product that might help you to combat the occurrence of severe tinnitus. Moreover, you can distract yourself from annoying sound by involving enjoyable activities in your life.

tinnitus4. As you know, every organ has a unique function in our body. In the same way, each ear also works as a protective organ that keeps your ear clean. The tiny hair and ear wax in ear work as a barrier against foreign particle. But if you are obsessed with the extra cleaning of your ear, you might put yourself at risk of developing tinnitus. As the extra cleaning of the ear can pile up more wax in your ear which could cause tinnitus symptoms.

5. If you are susceptible to certain fungal ear infection, then you end up developing the symptoms of tinnitus. Treating ear infection and regular screening help you to get rid of the achy infection and in turn reduce the risk of tinnitus. As the occurrence of ear infection on intermittent basis can increase the likelihood of tinnitus. So, it is advised you to treat the infection at an early stage by proper medication and routine checkup.

tinnitus6. We become bored with day to day routine that makes us sluggish and droopy. In that case, we might develop the habit of hunchback posture. Sometimes ergonomic exposure leads to cause tinnitus when we are sitting long on the computer with the same posture. Sitting or walking straight can make your physical condition even and keep you away from tinnitus symptoms.
